The pagan Pentagram represents the Four Elements: Earth, Air, Fire, & Water all embodied in Spirit. The Caduceus symbol of two snakes coiled around a rod with wings above, has many interpretations. Over the years it has been confused with the Rod of Asclepius which is a similar looking symbol (one snake and no wings) which is truly associated with Medicine and healing. The Caduceus, or Rod of Hermes, seems to originate with the story of the sun god Apollo and Hermes, where Hermes swapped his magical lyre for a magical rod that could turn base metal into gold, and so it is more associated with alchemy, trade and commerce. However, this Caduceus symbol now seems to have been adopted by healers and hedgewitches world wide, and is a recognisable healing, tranformational, medical symbol.
