Before you light your candle, cleanse and clear the sacred space where you do your spell work, and the candle.

You can use these candles in your spellwork for their colour correspondences, and you can also use essential oils (with carrier oil) to anoint the candle. Rub the oil on to your hands, and starting at the centre gently roll the candle between your hands towards the top to the wick. Then roll from the centre to the base. As you are doing this, think or describe your intention.

You can also use herbs, carve the candles with Zodiac Signs or other Sigils. All of these things, including burning Incense will increase the strength of your spell. Do as much as you feel comfortable with - there are no set rules here, and there are many more layers you can add to your spells that we do not have the space to describe here.

Finally, never assume that you know someone's wants or needs, you must perform your magick ethically. Only cast magick for someone else if they ask you to, or if they give you their permission. If you absolutely must perform candle magick for someone without them knowing, please make sure that it will benefit them without question - or qualify the spell with, 'if this is not for their highest good, or is not meant to be, this will not help them'. Magick can backfire on you if you do not make your intentions really clear.
