AWEN: Druidry developed in Europe and Britain more than 3000 years ago. "Awen" was referred to in Welsh literature as early as 796CE and has variously been translated to mean 'fluid essence’, or ‘flowing spirit’, a source of spiritual strength, a gift from God (Celtic Dagda), or magical inspiration from the cauldron of the Goddess Ceridwen which created the poetic genius of Taliesin. Chanting the word Awen (ah-oo-en) three times is one of the methods employed by some Druid groups for opening the individual spirit to the spirit of inspiration. The chant takes the form of a long, low, vibratory mantra, similar to the eastern Om. The three lines are described as three rays emanating from three points of light, with those points representing the triple aspect of deity and, also, the points at which the sun rises on the equinoxes and solstices - known as the Triad of the Sunrises.
