The moon gazing hare dates back to ancient times and was especially important to early Britons. Pagans believed that seeing a moon gazing hare would bring growth, new beginnings and good fortune.

Ostara (Oestre, Eastre) is the Anglo-Saxon Goddess associated with East, resurrection, re-birth, spring and dawn. She is also the Maiden aspect of the three-fold Goddess. Pagans of old made offerings of coloured eggs to her at the Vernal Equinox, and she is associated with rabbits and hares. The hare and the moon are also associated with Immortality, because the Hare is a symbol of the Moon, and Hare was supposed to have laid the Cosmic Egg from which all life emerged.
